Trick or treat!

Oh yes. Once again it is October 31st, which means that greedy fat kids all around the world are putting on a hat or something and going around the neighbours' houses screaming TRICK OR TREAT! And if youre a bit older its a perfect excuse for dressing slutty and getting crunk WHAT? Yeah so in honour of this beautiful tradition us pumpkins (were bagels pretending to be pumpkins because its halloween HAHA FUNNY RIGHT) are going to go through a few great halloween food ideas for parties or just for eating by yourself if you have no friends :)

So first of all, traditional PUMPKIN PIE (A huuuge favourite with us pumpkins ;) )

Ingredients
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked deep dish pie crust
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 (15 ounce) can LIBBY'S® 100% Pure Pumpkin
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can NESTLE® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Combine sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves in small bowl. Beat eggs lightly in large bowl. Stir in pumpkin and sugar-spice mixture. Gradually stir in evaporated milk. Pour into pie shell.
  3. Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees F.; bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 2 hours. Serve immediately or refrigerate. (Do not freeze as this will cause the crust to separate from the filling.)
And heres a picture just so it doesnt look so boring

Next, which is a must at every halloween party: dundundunnn CANDY CORN!

Something CSP (CS pumpkin, try to keep up) remembers was a big hit in Britain was TOFFEE APPLES! They areeee delish and kinda spooky? okay theyre not spooky but they ARE delish!
Theyre easy to make too! Just push a stick through the apples and dip them in hoooot hot hot caramel :) mm yes it is an orgasm for your tongue people (not in the way you perverts are thinking about it´.. or is that just us pumpkins..?)

ANYWAY HERES A PICTURE COS A PICTURE TELLS YOU MORE THAN 1000 WORDS

Now because were so creative, we can practically think of any food and make it halloweeny (yes halloweeny is a word just like helly HAHAHAHAH okay that was an inside you wouldnt understand) Think cupcakes, cookies, lollipops, punch and normal drinks but in a more spooooooky way ;) heres a few examples:

(of course the punch and shots are only meant for our adult readers) but we hope you enjoyed our halloween special and remember not to eat too much candy ;)

til we meet again

Food goes Hollywood

Without food, there is no life. This would lead our IB-minds to the conclusion that without life, there is no food and therefore life is all about food. Now let's ask ourselves the question: what are movies really about? Life. Life in the future, life in the past, human life, animal life, vampire life, life of horror, life of laughter or life of drama, or life in a fantasy world (naturally this list could go on forever, you know life in Spain, life in Tallinn etc.. but you get our point). Thus we cannot help but wonder: why is food's role in the film industry being constantly suppressed? Is this one of Hollywood's evil tactics of keeping people skinny? However, some movies have drawn our attention as exceptions, and now we want to discuss them. So ladies and gentlemen we present you movies, in which foods have been given a big responsibility!

Well for one there is OBVIOUSLY the Waitress. I mean OMG this movie gives us like what at least 18 different pies which all sound and look just tooooooooo delicious. Plus they've got these amazing names; our personal favorites are Kick in the pants Pie, Baby  screaming its head off in the middle of the night and ruining my life Pie, Pregnant miserable self-pitying loser Pie, Earl murders me because Im having an affair Pie and Old Joe's horny Pie. For some of these 18 pies featured in the movie you can actually find the recipe online, just google 'The pies in The Waitress' and something should come up. Try to make them as pretty as in the movie. Without the pies, this movie would be just a typical drama with dark humor but the pies take the movie to a whole new level. The movie tells a story of a young woman working in a diner. She is unhappily married, gets pregnant, starts an affair but most importantly; MAKES PIES. A definite MUST-SEE, super cute and makes you really hungry.

Another one is Chocolat. Not only is Johnny Depp absolutely gorgeous in it but the little pieces of chocolate.. YUMMY. It tells a story of a rather bohemian woman (at least for her own time) who has traveled a lot and opens her own Chocolate Shop. Everyone loves it, a bit too much, and they get into all kinds of trouble with her daughter. The chocolates look so good and the lady has this incredible sense of knowing exactly what kind is your favorite. And yeah, on the right you see a picture of Johnny Depp, you've all seen chocolate before you know what it looks like. We also wanna mention Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. My GOD is that place heaven on earth or what, and on that one you actually wont be distracted by Johnny's amazing looks since Willy Wonka is not so attractive as a character. So you can fully focus on the chocolate. YAY!

And mm yea, Super Size Me. Its kinda mind-blowing actually, its a document about a guy who eats only fast food for like a month or something. That does not go well. Thank you Morgan Spurlock for sacrificing your health for the rest of us, too bad McDonald's is still dominating the earth. But this one makes you feel kinda yucky about fast food so maybe you dont wanna see it. Unless youre seriously obese. Cause honestly its a document worth seeing, its actually interesting (we're really not sarcastic here).

So we hope you enjoy eating while watching films, since for us its like a law: you dont watch a movie without food. And we wanna encourage our readers to follow this rule too ! Makes life so much more fun. And like we learned earlier, life is all about food.

Ps. oh yea and also American PIEs. HAHAH so funny. They're good tho.

Food thats good for you - in more ways than just one !

Do you ever get the feeling that you wanna eat something healthy today, something thats good for your body, perhaps something non-fat or green? Yea we neither. But sometimes our moms tell us that we eat too much pizza and candy and dont go to the gym enough (read = ever), and we get the feeling that we should eat something healthy for like a day, to keep our consciences and dear mothers satisfied. Now when you know food like us bagels do, its really not that hard, just a bit dull thats all.

We bagels like to call it, the "good-good food". It tastes great. Its got hardly any calories (which we love but some of our 10 readers dont) and lots of antioxidants and you know vitamins and stuff that Mr Allen tells us are good for us in bio class. So its good in many ways. Good-good. Here are a few tips for you mortals who need our advice.

Berries. Especially blueberries and strawberries. VB worked at a strawberry field for the summer and can tell you with all honesty that you just cant get enough of them. They are packed with vitamin C and other vitamins and some acids etc etc. So take our word for it, they're healthy. And honestly a fresh strawberry tastes better than the finest piece of chocolate in the world (even the delicious swiss kind). However strawberries are honestly not as good outside of Finland, and since we are international we need a back-up plan. Blueberries. They are good all over the world, and if we dare say, even healthier than strawberries. This is where all the antioxidants are hiding. We've also heard that eating blueberries will lower your cholesterol and stuff so seriously eat them. And prevent Alzheimer's disease. Oh and both strawberries and blueberries taste great with milk and if you make that skinny milk youve got like half a calorie in it so yay.

Sushi. Who doesnt LOOOOVE it? And believe it or not, its totally healthy. You've got all the healthy good fats but none of the bad ones, no cholesterol (which to our understanding is generally considered a bad thing), lots of protein and we are also back with the antioxidants. So duh, having lots of long chemical words obviously means that its healthy. And though it is a lot of fun to make sushi yourself, its also like the world's healthiest fast food that you can just crab from the local sushi bar closest to you. And probably also the most expensive, so its a rare but oh so delicious treat. And those idiots who are worried about the raw fish, we beg of you: GET OVER IT.

Fish roe. Looks like red caviar and probably disgusting if you dont love it but we bagels do. And its HIIIIIIIGH on vitamins A and D, and you know other healthy stuff, and we hear roe is good for ur eyes and brains too. So eat roe. Or actually dont and then theres more left for us. Its just too good to be true, little pieces of heaven from the sea. And you dont have to feel at all guilty for eating it. Ofc the not-so-healthy craime fraiche you add to it is not so healthy but all the omega stuff you get from the roe gives you the permission to put in the craime fraiche. This too btw is ridiculously expensive but so so worth it.

So we have proved that you can eat food that will make your body and mind happy, and its actually fun eating it. Also water, green tea and green stuff in general (absinthe excluded) are safe! Enjoy.

But no need to worry, we still like pizza.

Studying --> Students dying

Oh the joy of studying.. Us IB Bagels know exactly what its about. It sucks and makes you want to go hang yourself with your tights or something. Luckily, us bagels know exactly what special treats you can enjoy while studying or working on school work that make it studying a little bit more enjoyable!

So here are our top 10 snackies that keep us alive on those horrible days..

10)
CSB's specialty: noodles. So easy, so good, so DELIGHTFUL! But once again, hard to concentrate on eating and studying at the same time :(
9)
Go nuts with studying.. with nuts hahahaha. Nuts are healthy and perfect little nibbly treats for studying! CSB prefers chili nuts and VB wasabi nuts, nuts gooooooooooooood!
8)
ohh yes, pizza must not be excluded from this list. Its great food for studying except that if you eat a whole pizza you might become full and sleepy after which is not good for your working!
7)
As you already know, B&J ice cream is our baby, the only crap part is that you have to eat the icecream with undivided attention and you cantstudy while doing it.
6)
So good but as VB can tell us all from experience.. if you eat a whole bag in 4 minutes you WILL feel bad! And anyway all the salt wont feel good after a while...
5)
candy <3 what more is there to say?

4)
Ah the subway sandwich. So good... Just looking at the picture makes me smile :) It could be number one but you might lose focus on the studying while eating the bread of perfection so its not really practical.. but so so good.
3)

You guys were probably not expecting this from us, but yes we actually enjoy healthy stuff too. Especially stockmann salads are DELISH and they never let us down. Although they are not thinking about our student budget when pricing that stuff. But it's worth it. Perfect for studying cos its not too much and you wont feel all full afterwards which usually results to the usual "im only gonna close my eyes for a minute" fail. So yes, salad goooood.

2)

The love of our lives. These little drops of heaven keep us going and just one bite can make you so happy! Whenever and wherever youre studying, keep atleast a bar with you and you cant go wrong (with right..).

1)

COFFEE! If you have to stay up all night writing a goddamn history essay 3 times a week like we do, you cant live without it. It keeps you going and going for as long as you need! Red Bull works like a charm too. The official number one necessity for studying.

So this is how we are planning to survive IB. Don't even try studying without eating. We are not even gonna give it a shot. Thank you and good night.

It's pink. It's got six layers. It is the ultimate birthday cake. MADE FROM SCRATCH. (almost)

One August day in 1992 a baby girl was born, and 18 years later it was time to party. This girl just happened to be so lucky to have such amazing friends like us bagels, and among our many fabulous gifts and surprises was The Cake. This original idea for baking a cake came up while writing a speech in Rax and we made it happen.

It was one sunny and warm Saturday morning in August and CSB took the long and exhausting journey to VB's house. We went to the supermarket to get some supplies, and yes, we maybe went a little overboard. But daddy's credit card (<3) payed for this so I suppose it's ok. So this is what we bought (and you should buy if you're up for the challenge and wish to try this at home):
-6 ready cake layers
-whipping strawberry cream
-whipping regular cream
-whipping vanilla cream
-apple jam
-strawberry jam
-strawberries
-raspberries
-marianne the candy
-meringue
-sprinkles (A LOT !!!! u cant have too much of these when making the ultimate birthday cake)
-red food dye
-some juice
And we cannot emphasize this enough: MORE IS MORE people so all this crap about "its not the quantity but the quality" or "less is more" can be thrown away when doing this cake. It should be big, pink, bright, provocative and it has to be the center of attention. So when youre at the grocery store and ure thinking: "Should I get this or not?" the answer is yes. YES YES YES. (especially if u have got that credit card in your hand)

So yea. After the shopping part we went to VB's house to make The Cake. While walking CSB also got a nice tour of VB's hometown. (she's so lucky) Once we reached our destination we obviously needed a lunch break so CSB made her famous noodles and we watched some F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and talked some shit and did absolutely nothing useful.

The laziness had to stop at some point so we got to work. We put on some music (you wanna listen to something catchy like ABBA, Baby Got Back, Eppu Normaali etc) and started whipping the cream. DISASTER. First of all you dont wanna put it all in the bowl at the same time. Its not gonna whip. And second of all you might wanna use a larger bowl cause the kitchen was covered in pink after our baking session. As were we.

The pink stuff (.. wait till the rest of the dye goes in)
Now that we have seen that all the people who ate the cake are still alive and healthy, we can confess our cake-making-methods. You take your cake layers out, you put some juice on each one, and with ur hands you put some cream and other stuff on each layer. What's important is that you crush the meringues before putting them in. Now there are no rules on what you should put on each layer, you can just trust your instincts (if your instincts are as good as ours which we doubt but anyway). The bottom line is that you use a LOT of everything and especially the dye. You cant go wrong (with right, what?).
4 layers used, 2 to go plus decorations

THE ULTIMATE BIRTHDAY CAKE. Gorgeous.

The compliments we got from people.. This was so worth ruining our kitchen and VB's clothes.

ps. You should know, we never tried it. But come on, what's not to like? ;)
