Even us Bagels get sick every now and then

Being sick sucks. Catching a cold, getting a fever, throwing up.. But occasionally it happens to everyone and then u just gotta live with it. The right food, however, makes it a little better.

A bagel gone bad

- Tea. Tea makes you feel warm and also helps the throat. Our favorite is green tea and thats really healthy too. When you're sick, tea is something you can always have - and sometimes its the only thing.
- Noodles. Perfect! Again, its hot and you really should prefer the spicy noodles cause they help with the flu.
- Anything with vitamin C, meaning lemons oranges etc. They are the best.
- Yogurt, we dont really understand why but its got some acid stuff bacteria etc.
- Most importantly: water. As always ..

But hey if ur throwing up then dont eat anything. Just drink some coke.

Now its time for more food and Sex and The City. Later!

We pledge allegiance to the TV of Sweden

So nows probably a good time to tell u the truth about our spring break. It did involve food. Only not that we would've actually made any ourselves, but through TV we kinda stayed on the top of our game. You see in Sweden, they have this amazing channel that ensures that u dont have to go skiing at all ! In fact u can spend the entire holiday in the cottage. How great is that? They got Friends, OC, Big bang theory, Two and a half men, Ellen DeGeneres.. But here's the top 3 that really makes ur time worth while (and they all got something to do with food):

1) RACHAEL RAY
Every morning we got to listen to her oh so annoying voice and see her oh so inappropriate manners, but what do u know: the most fake show out there is pretty damn entertaining. Her recipes and "oops i forgot the onion"-style cooking suits for us, too.

2) Kitchen Nightmares
You dont wanna mess with Gordon. Or at least thats the impression we got when we listened to him put down every place with a frozen lasagna. Anyways its really exciting wondering whether the bitchy sous-chef is gonna get kicked out or if the big opening night of the improved restaurant goes well. But yeah this guy really cares about his food and has a nasty side too, even tho at first impression he does seem pretty nice. Dont be fooled like we were!

3) The Biggest Loser
WOW these people work hard. Even CSB got her favorites even tho she had a hard time feeling any sympathy towards people who've been eating nothing but cupcakes for the past 5 years. Anyways for the people in this show this is like their last resort, so in a week u really start to care about their progress, and it feels so good when they reach their goals or even exceed them. Watching this show is even more fun with some candy and pizza.

So our week wasnt all partying and skiing, in fact mostly it was watching these amazing food-related shows and some rich-kid-drama. But we enjoyed it,  and highly recommend these shows for u as well!

HEJA SVERIGE!

So for our winter holidays, us bagels went to Sweden with a few friends :) Our trip consisted of skiing, chilling and perhaps a bit of partying :) So that week were all on our own foodwise and we ate mostly-- crap :D Which is why this blognetry is not going to be about food. Before you go absolutely crazy reader, dont panic. Even though reading about food is entertaining and hilarious, we just dont want to bore you with stories about noodles anymore. (The noodles were crap btw, REMEMBER THIS IF YOU GO TO SWEDEN) So instead, we will tell you stories and show you pictures of what a fabulous and superfun trip we had :)

DAY 1 - HANGOVER

So we had our Wanhat before we left and traditionally after you have danced your wanhat..YOU PARTY! :) We did this at kaivohuone in Helsinki and here is the aftermath! (Our flight left 7am so we slept like.. for an hour?)

From left to right: Vegetarian bagel jr (he had a veggie pizza and the guys wouldnt stop teasing), Pear bagel (old inside joke about his body looking like a pear) and PRIPPS BLÅ BAGEL (pripps blå is a drink in Sweden... were not gonna tell you more)

After a sleepy flight and 6 hour car drive we made it to Sälen - our destination.

DAY 3 OR 4

VB and VBjr discussing vegetarian meals

This is midget bagel (hes short.. duh) showing us how to dance

DAY 5

Midget bagel jr after a hard day of not even leaving the house (she put her clothes on but did not go skiing)

MB jr after her nap

PRIPPSBLÅBAGEL with a pripps blå! look how happy he is, this is only moments before... we cant say, it remains a mystery

LAST DAY - THE CRUISE BACK

Legal bagel, midget bagel jr and our very own VB having a good time!

CSB and PB just.. posing or whatever you call that face PB

Sambo Bagel and CSB

So as you can see, our winter holidays were full of adventure and fun! And now you know some of our friends too, so you know a bit more about us bagels then ;) We hope all of you guys enjoyed your holidays as much as we did, now its back to reality (reality being the urge to kill yourself during math class)

As the swedish say,

Happy Bloody Valentine's Day

Two blog entries in a day ?? CAN THIS BE HAPPENING? Well, our dear readers, its ur lucky day and boy have we got a treat for u. Earlier on we wrote about our love towards food and how we express this love through songs. Now we got inspired and we want to write about the best day of the year. The day of love. February 14th. VALENTINE'S DAY!

So FUCK. Every year ur kinda thinking that "ok valentines day. aww how cute." but the reality is that everytime u see a heartshaped chocolate box or - believe it or not - heart shaped goat cheese (SERIOUSLY?) u truly feel like killing someone, and its usually the first happy couple u run into. I mean ur totally ruining the food there!?? Anyways.. both of us remember Valentine's Day as actually something fun in the UK and the US, when we were young and wrote cute letters to our friends and stuff, but in Finland it seems to only make people miserable. I mean no ones giving away free cupcakes with pink frosting or anything? And now ur thinking that "aww poor lonely gals, but hey maybe next year!" (cause thats kinda what were used to getting which ofc - to anyone with a brain - sounds completely retarded) but this is not about being single or not. if ur dating ur like "should i get him something? idk if hes gonna get me anything.. we havent really talked about it. maybe just some chocolate (which ofc is always good). we've only been going out for like a month. he did mention valentines day last week but idk if it really means anything or not? but what about that awkward moment when he blahblahblah..". It just usually hasnt been such a big deal here in Finland, but since every year it becomes more and more exaggerated, people dont know how to react. So it only stresses people out! Then we have the people whos boyfriends are abroad or in the army and theyre all miserable cause they miss them even more than they usually do. But heres the thing. We can handle all this. Other annoyed people just wishing for the day to be over. But OMFG when the jolly ones come along. "Me and my boyfriend go out EVERY valentine's day to like some place really nice , kinda expensive but he always pays for everything and then we get each other these amazing gifts and have this amazing valentines day sex in our amazing new pink matching underwear" I mean PLEASE?

Anywaysss , since ur reading our blog u probably dont have a life so (perhaps a fellow IB student?) u, too, are going to be miserable tomorrow. This is what we'll be eating:
-chocolate
-ben & jerry's
-mcdonalds (VB is gonna try to stay strong and NOT have a hamburger with meat in it but who knows what might happen.. i mean it is valentines day, horrible things may happen)
-heart shaped goat cheese. LOL jk but seriously we just havent quite gotten over this yet
-or anything else u feel like bringing over. But stick to this and u might just survive tomorrow. It'll be better on the 15th again. Before u kill urself, like our friend Sara planned on doing, just sleep on it.
Everythings gonna be alright.. Everythings gonna be ok.. La-la-la.. Still in the singing mood clearly.

But hey happy valentine's day y'all! <3

LOVE x 10000,
The Heart-shaped Bagels

ps thx a lot for making this a big deal at school too. we HAVE to wear pink to school tomorrow. i mean isnt it bad enough that we have to walk through sampokuja everyday which has been like covered with hearts since january 7th?! JUUUUUST GREAT.

FUGLYYYYY

Express your love for food through song!

So we all love food. We have established that about 12 blogposts ago. If you dont, then why are you reading this? YEAH SO ANYWAY SINCE we all love food..

why not express this undying love through lyrics?

So we all remember being children and singing about the meatball that dropped off your plate and rolled into the garden.. just me? WELL HERE ARE THE LYRICS IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME:

(It's called on top of spaghetti)

On top of spaghetti
     All covered with cheese,
     I lost my poor meatball,
     When somebody sneezed.

  It rolled off the table
     And onto the floor,
     And then my poor meatball
     Rolled out of the door.

   It rolled in the garden
     And under a bush,
     And then my poor meatball
     Was nothing but mush.

  The mush was as tasty
     As tasty could be,
     And then the next summer
     It grew into a tree.

  The tree was all covered,
     All covered with moss,
     And on it grew meatballs,
     And tomato sauce.

     So if you eat spaghetti
     All covered with cheese,
     Hold onto your meatball
     Lest somebody sneeze.

Fun eh? and heres a picture of a meatball to cheer you up!

kinda disturbing... WELL ANYWAY

Now that we are all grownups (HHAHAHAHA) here are a few of the bagels' favourite tunes that involve food:

50 cent - candy shop (SO AND TOTALLY KIDDING)
Snow Patrol - Chocolate
Fool's Garden - Lemon Tree
Aaron Carter - I want Candy (Candy is actually a girl here but... you can think of real candy while singing)
Kelis - Milkshake
Weezer - Pork and Beans

and you've all heard about Weird al Yankovic right? well he sings parodies of songs and he has a whole album devoted to food!! That why we bagels really adore him even though he looks like this

A few of our favorite parodies would be:

Girls just want to have lunch - Girls just wanna have fun

My bologna - My sharona

Eat it - Beat it

I love Rocky Road - I love Rock n Roll

Fat - Bad

So thats it for today, remember to SING!

Wanhat Tanssit - What's food got to do with it ?

Most students studying in Finnish high schools participate in a very traditional ball on their second year - Wanhat Tanssit ('The Old Dances'). It began as a celebration of becoming the oldest students in the school, when the abit - third year students, that is - leave the school to study for the finals. People used to actually wear old, kinda ugly stuff and have fun with it, but nowadays its really just an imitation of prom and a contest of who spends the most money on their hair. For girls, that is. Instead of bitching about the event tho, we're gonna be discussing all the connections between wanhat and food.

Before the actual event, many girls have to constantly make sure that the dress they bought 6 months in advance still fits them, which forces them to constantly either diet or eat donuts until they feel like throwing up. The latter, of course is more desirable of the two, but equally more rare; most people buy a dress thats too small for them cause "im planning on losing enough weight so that its gonna fit". Dresses with zippers cause the most trouble cause they have to be just right. Some people choose to, as extreme as it does sound, leave chocolate completely out of their diets for the last few weeks in order to "minimize the risk of getting pimples". Others simply dont eat on the week of wanhat at all; even at the risk of fainting in the middle of WIIIIIENER waltz.

Now when the day comes, there is a very high risk of being without food for a grand total of 6 hours, because some people arrive as early as 3 pm and dinner is not until 9 pm. So we are advised to bring some healthy, keep-me-thin snacks such as bananas and water. We're kinda planning on ordering chinese tho. (chinaman.com) They're gonna be selling buns and coffee during the intermission but heaven forbid if we have any; u really cant pee with the goddamn dress and that one bun might just make everything fall apart. After dancing for our parents, we head to a restaurant.

The wanhat dinner I mentioned earlier (which as a concept of course is totally ridiculous because you are once again wearing the dress so actual eating is not going to take place) is another way to make this event ever-the-more rememberable for us. We get to pay a lot of money for a very high class, supreme, one might even say luxurious dinner; no, not a five course dinner but a buffet (eat as much as you like = guys, its all yours).

After this we head home, fall asleep and wake up in the morning, only to wear that dress again. This time we dance for the younger students and noone really gives a fuck anymore so everyone basically just wants to get it over and done with. Now, this is over at about 11 o'clock and this is when the weakest ones head to Tapiola for a pizza and some make-me-happy-chocolate. The ones that have gone absolutely crazy, however, continue the strive for perfection until the after party.

Now the after party itself is a whole new chapter, food wise. When people head home around 3-4 AM, there might be some angry phone calls made to 020202 or 118 asking for pizza. We bagels, however, have already thought this through and are planning on buying some frozen pizzas beforehand.

Ahh so we really cant wait for all this to happen, and we hope u enjoyed reading this wanhat special.

Sincerely yours,
beygels (apparently thats how they used to spell it, back in the day)

ps. if fitting into ur dress really worries u, you can always do what CSB did; eat all u like, buy a corset and not breathe for one night

Airplane food = like plain air (hahahahaha no)

Now, we have all been on a plane. We have all had something to eat on the plane. We have all wanted to go hang ourselves with our own underwear because the food is so bad and youre so hungry. Yes, this blogpost will be all about HOW AIRPLANE FOOD SUCKS.

So, CSB had the luck of flying first and business class to London and Oman and back during the holidays. Must say, the food is better there compared to the economy class food. They actually have real knives and forks and it totally feels like youre in a restaurant (not, the food is still crap its just placed elegantly on a plate so it looks nicer.)

So just to make you guys have fun and remember the good times on the plane, we have some pictures to show you which will most probably make you wanna go find that underwear again!

How could you resist? And they think the dry bread or pathetic dessert will help too!

So now that we have established that we hate plane food, you can totally trust our tips concerning food, because now you know we must know our stuff! So the next time you guys are on a plane just remember to hit starbucks before you board. If you dont, just pack an extra pair of stockings with you to strangle yourself with

until we (m)eat again! (were so much fun!)

above: a food blogger you do not want to trust

oh-man! (CSB went to oman... which is a country fyi... she didnt know either)

So CSB spent her winter holiday in London and.. Oman! Oman is next to Abu Dhabi if some of you dont know and it was a goooood trip. So ofcourse since this blog is all about food, i will tell you about the food we had in Oman!

Fiiirst of all there was alooooot of pita bread and hummus (or homos as it said in the menus)

At our hotel, we had the best chinese restaurant in the whole UAE so we had to check it out riight? well it was crap. It was probably the only chinese restaurant in the UAE which made it the best!

So we experienced the more traditional foods of Oman in a six course meal on new years eve! Apart from getting drunk with family (just kidding... yeah) we had lots of unusual and delicious food, for example:

So that was Oman for you, until we meet again

New year. New resolutions. New Bagels? Not so much.

As us Bagels were wondering what special treats we would give for our readers in 2011, we were really feeling the wind of change, until the cold hard truth hit us: why change something that works? So as our readers and fans have praised our work so willingly, we decided that the Bagels aint changing. We are going to keep our traditional style, look and perspective to life. Like bagels, we are a never changing classic. However, we shall continue to amuse ur Sundays and bring light to ur sad little lives (yeah even tho the christmas break has been messy, Sunday will remain the official International Bagels-day in 2011), and always strive for better. We want to take this moment to thank our fans, whom without we would not be standing here right now. Also thanks for blogspot which still remains free of charge. YAY.

Since New Year's eve is really not about food, its all about  champagne, we're just gonna skip that and go on to New Year's day, which is all about food. When everywhere else is closed on this holy day of universal hangover (and for people under 18 just universal boredom), pizza places everywhere are open. Our dear friends Tomi and Patrick were able to order pizzas with just a click on the internet! Isnt it amazing what the kids nowadays can do online..  So if ur working in a pizzeria, take the new years day off. Its gonna be busy and people are gonna be cranky. We'd also like to take this moment to remember those who were so hungover that they could not leave the bed to eat a single bite and felt like dying. If this sounds familiar to you, us health conscious bagels strongly suggest a new years resolution of controlling the consumption of alcoholic beverages on New Year's and replacing them with water.

Speaking of new year's resolutions.. well we hate them. No one sticks to them, and you just feel guilty throughout the year for not doing so. And most of all, nobody has the energy to concentrate on them after staying up until 00.00 the previous day (i mean my god, CSB likes to go to bed early but on New Year's everyone just expects her to stay up. Thats just plain mean). So we'd like to quote our biggest idol Bridget Jones, since she so well puts it:

"I do think New Year's resolutions can't technically be expected to begin on New Year's Day, don't you?  Since, because it's an extension of New Year's Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system.  Also dieting on New Year's Day isn't a good idea as you can't eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to ease your hangover.  I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second."

Thank you, Bridget Jones. Could not agree more. And seriously if u need a resolution to scream over the fireworks, then take something easy. Like we did. Our resolution is to buy candy at least once a week, and remain honest to each other (meaning also that insulting is permitted and the other one cant get mad).  If u choose to stop biting ur nails or always do ur homework, you'll just fail to keep it, get a really low self-esteem and eventually be miserable and self-destructive. Is that something u really want? REALLY?

Anyway, we'll be writing again in two days, but till then u can reminisce the year 2010 through our blog entries. Now let's welcome TWENTY ELEVEN !!!

xoxo,
CSB & VB

Xmas time = 2 weeks of constant eating

Once a year we get a two week Christmas Break from school. It involves sleeping all day and eating all night, and occasionally singing some well known christmas carols such as fucking in the winter wonderland or how to get a christmas  fuck buddy. However, eating is the most dominant one, for sure, and now we shall take a closer look at christmas time eating.

CHOCOLATE. You always buy some before christmas eve, then u get like 5 boxes from santa and ur set for ruining ur skin with pimples. But you just dont get enough of it, and during christmas time u dont have to feel guilty about eating it (not that we ever do ofc). For breakfast, lunch, dinner and always in between. If ur interested in getting us bagels a chocolatey present, dont get anything with marmalade and u should do fine. THANK YOU, we really appreciate it!

Fish. Oh so healthy and oh so good. Fish babies or grown up fish, we dont care. Even VB (veggie bagel , u know the vegetarianism duh) cant resist it. We personally like fish roe the best, but salmon is also super good on rye bread. During christmas time, fish is everywhere and we dont mind.

Rice porridge <3 our baby. Especially when grandma makes it with whole milk in the oven, its perfect. Its as good as dessert but u get to eat it in the morning, and christmas wouldnt be the same without it. OO and the best part is that theres always an almond in the porridge and whoever gets it can make a wish. Our secret is to eat as much as it takes to get the almond. It works every time.

Glögi. The non-alcoholic one ofc.. Theres nothing better than coming home from the freezing outdoors and having some hot glögi under a blanket. And watch friends while doing this but you guys already know that thats a given. The glögi season is long, all the way from november to january. At least for us bagels.

Ok this was a very brief Christmas special, since this is our christmas break and we're extremely busy doing nothing. Enjoy the holiday season, or whats left of it anyways.

Christmas cheer for everyone near, like CSB (christmas spice bagel, for the day) so often puts it.

Yours truly,
IB's
